欧州連合 2020年12月17日、欧州連合司法裁判所 は、加盟国は動物福祉 を促進するために宗教的屠殺を禁止でき、動物を殺す前に非致死的な気絶処理を課すことができると裁定した。この裁定は、2017年にフランデレン政府が非致死的（可逆的とも呼ばれる）な事前気絶処理なしでの動物屠殺を禁止したことに対し、ユダヤ人およびムスリム団体が異議を申し立てたことに応じたものである。
