Vindaloo evolved from the [[Portuguese cuisine|Portuguese]] dish [[carne de vinha d'alhos|carne de vinha d'alhos]]. The traditional vindaloo recipe is pork, but alternative versions are also commonly used, such as beef, chicken, lamb, mutton, prawns, vegetables and tofu.
