作用機序 カルシトリオールは、以下のようにして血中カルシウム濃度（[Ca2+ ]）を上昇させる：
消化管 からの食事性カルシウムの吸収を促進する。カルシウムの腎尿細管 再吸収を増加させ、尿中のカルシウム損失を減少させる。
骨からのカルシウムの放出を刺激する。そのためには、骨芽細胞 と呼ばれる特定のタイプの骨細胞に作用して、RANKL を放出させ、その結果破骨細胞 を活性化させる。
