先天性心疾患は、風疹の予防接種 、食塩へのヨウ素 の添加、特定の食品への葉酸 の添加によって部分的に予防可能である。治療の必要のない欠陥もある。その他はカテーテルを用いた治療 や心臓手術 で効果的に治療できる場合がある。時には多くの手術が必要になることもある。時には心臓移植 が必要となる。適切な治療を行えば、複雑な問題であっても、一般的に予後は良好である。
