内科 （Internal Medicine ）は、英連邦諸国 では一般内科 とも呼ばれ、成人の内科疾患の予防、診断、治療に焦点を当てた医師 の診療科 である。内科医は内科医 （英連邦諸国では内科医 ）と呼ばれる。内科医は、未分化または多臓器疾患 のプロセスを持つ患者を管理する専門的な技能を持っている。入院患者と外来 患者の両方にケアを提供し、教育や研究に大きく貢献することも多い。内科医は内科の卒後 研修を受けた有資格の医師であり、医学の学位 は取得したが、まだ監督なしで診療を行う免許を持っていない医師に対して一般的に使用される用語である「interns 」と混同してはならない。
