Summary
DescriptionHickman line catheter with 2 lumens.jpg |
English: This is a photo of a hickman line two-lumen catheter inserted on the patient's left side. Scars at the base of the neck indicate the insertion point into the left jugular vein. The line runs subcutaneously over the clavicle to a point about seven centimeters below, where it emerges from the chest and splits into the two lumens. The catheter has an antibiotic collar around the exit point and is held fast using a Tegaderm transparent film dressing. A piece of tape with the date of the dressing has been affixed. Each lumen has a clamp for closing off the line and each terminates with a threaded end for drawing blood for analysis, and attaching lines to infusion pumps, and apheresis and dialysis machines. |
