Symptoms of elevated blood ammonia include muscle weakness and fatigue. If left untreated, ammonia can cross the blood brain barrier and affect brain tissues, leading to a spectrum of neuropsychiatric and neurological symptoms including impaired memory, seizure, confusion, delirium, excessive sleepiness, disorientation, brain edema, intracranial hypertension, coma, and even death.
