It was and is still being imported from Khewrah area of Pakistani Punjab, where it was first discovered by the troops of Alexander the Great in 326 B.C. Pre-independence, rock salt was imported via Mughal Road, which, before the advent of Mughals, was called ''Namak'' Route. After partition, its supply was barred. Because of its benefits, it is now being consumed by almost one-fourth of the population. |
