Herbs are used in many [[Wikipedia:religion|religion]]s. During the monastic era, monks would cultivate herbs alongside vegetables, while others would be set aside in a [[Wikipedia:physic garden|physic garden]] for specific purposes. For example, [[myrrh]] (''Commiphora myrrha'') and [[frankincense]] (''Boswellia'' species) in [[Wikipedia:Hellenistic religion|Hellenistic religion]], the [[:en:Nine Herbs Charm|nine herbs charm]] in [[Wikipedia:Anglo-Saxon paganism|Anglo-Saxon paganism]], [[neem]] (''Azadirachta indica'') leaves, [[Aegle marmelos|bael]] (''Aegele marmelos'') leaves, holy basil or ''tulsi'' (''[[Ocimum tenuiflorum]]''), [[turmeric]] or "haldi" (''Curcuma longa''), [[cannabis]] in [[Wikipedia:Hinduism|Hinduism]], and [[white sage]] in [[:en:Wicca|Wicca]].
