Introduction

Overview

3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) アーキテクチャでは、パケット交換機 (PS) に加えて、IP マルチメディア・サブシステム (IMS) というサブシステムを導入している。パケット交換（PS）ドメインの追加として、IPマルチメディア・サブシステム（IMS）と呼ばれるサブシステムを導入した。 IMSは、従来のテレフォニー・サービスとの相互運用性だけでなく、IPベースの新しいマルチメディア・サービスをサポートする。IMSはサービスそのものではなく、以下のような高度なIPサービスやアプリケーションを実現するためのフレームワークである。 3GPPは、端末とIMSの間の制御プレーン・シグナリングにセッション開始プロトコル（SIP）を採用した。 SIPは、IMS内のマルチメディア・セッションを確立および停止するために使用される。SIPは、テキスト・ベースのインターネット技術タスクフォース（IETF）によって開発された、テキストベースのリクエスト／レスポンス・アプリケーション・レベル・プロトコルである。3GPPはIETFのSIPを採用しているが、管理、セキュリティ、課金などの理由から、コアSIPプロトコルに多くの拡張が行われた（たとえば、新しいヘッダなど、3GPP TS24.229 参照）。 そのため、SIPサーバとプロキシは、3GPPではより複雑になっている。しかし、3GPPの拡張機能はすべて、IETFと3GPPの協力の結果、IETFによって規定されたものである。 このため、IMSで使用されるSIPプロトコルは、IETFと3GPPの協力のもと、完全に相互運用可能である。
