実施 肥料は、土壌に表層施肥するか、播種 前に肥料を土壌に混ぜ込むことによって施用される。肥料成分のポリマーコーティングは、錠剤やスティックに肥料養分の「真のタイムリリース」または「段階的養分放出」（SNR）を与える。NBPT は、酵素ウレアーゼ の阻害剤として機能する。ウレアーゼ阻害剤 は、尿素系肥料に0.05重量パーセントのレベルで添加され、アンモニアへの変換を制御する。
