Insulin is used to treat a number of diseases including [[diabetes]] and its acute complications such as [[diabetic ketoacidosis]] and [[hyperosmolar hyperglycemic states]]. It is also used along with [[glucose]] to treat [[hyperkalemia|high blood potassium levels]]. Use during [[pregnancy]] is relatively safe for the baby. Insulin was formerly used in a psychiatric treatment called [[insulin shock therapy]].

インスリンは、糖尿病やその急性合併症である糖尿病性ケトアシドーシス、高スモラール血症などの多くの疾患の治療に用いられる。また、高血中カリウム濃度を治療するためにブドウ糖とともに使用される。妊娠中の使用は赤ちゃんにとって比較的安全である。インスリンは以前はインスリンショック療法と呼ばれる精神科治療で使用されていた。
