In contrast with other [[Hyperglycemia|anti-hyperglycemic]] [[diabetes medication]]s, SGLT2 inhibitors enhance, rather than suppress, [[gluconeogenesis]] and [[ketogenesis]]. Because SGLT2 inhibitors activate [[sirtuin 1]] (and thus [[PPARGC1A|PGC-1α]] and [[FGF21]]), they are more [[Cardioprotection|cardioprotective]] than the other medications used to treat [[diabetes]].

In contrast with other anti-hyperglycemic diabetes medications, SGLT2 inhibitors enhance, rather than suppress, gluconeogenesis and ketogenesis. Because SGLT2 inhibitors activate sirtuin 1 (and thus PGC-1α and FGF21), they are more cardioprotective than the other medications used to treat diabetes.
