Reward system disorders

GLP-1 agonists are under development for substance use disorder, a condition with few pharmacological treatment options. They reduce the self-administered intake of drugs and alcohol in non-human animals, although this effect has not been proven in humans. The mechanism of this addiction-reducing effect is unknown. GLP-1 agonists are also under investigation for the treatment of binge eating disorder, which is the most common eating disorder.
