There are varieties of Kuḻambu, such as paruppu ({{langx\|ta\|பருப்பு}}, meaning dal) Kuḻambu and pattani Kuḻambu that contain lentils, but the vast majority do not use dal beyond the small quantity used as a spice or during tempering.
