Vitamin D is carried via the blood to the liver, where it is converted into the [[prohormone]] [[calcifediol]]. Circulating calcifediol may then be converted into [[calcitriol]] {{ndash}} the biologically active form of vitamin D {{ndash}} in the kidneys.

Vitamin D is carried via the blood to the liver, where it is converted into the prohormone calcifediol. Circulating calcifediol may then be converted into calcitriol – the biologically active form of vitamin D – in the kidneys.
