Traditional rice cakes, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[tteok]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and Korean confectionery &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[hangwa]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; are eaten as treats during holidays and festivals. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Tteok&amp;#039;&amp;#039; refers to all kinds of [[Tteok|rice cakes]] made from either pounded rice (메떡, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;metteok&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), pounded [[glutinous rice]] (찰떡, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;chaltteok&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), or glutinous rice left whole, without pounding. It is served either filled or covered with sweetened mung bean paste, [[red bean paste]], mashed red beans, [[raisin]]s, a sweetened filling made with sesame seeds, sweet pumpkin, beans, jujubes, pine nuts or honey). &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Tteok&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is usually served as dessert or as a snack. Among varieties, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[songpyeon]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is a chewy stuffed &amp;#039;&amp;#039;tteok&amp;#039;&amp;#039; served at &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Chuseok]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. [[Honey]] or another soft sweet material such as sweetened sesame or black beans are used as fillings.
