In 1907, he received the [[Nobel Prize in Chemistry]] for &amp;quot;his discovery of cell-free fermentation&amp;quot;. Following Buchner&amp;#039;s example, enzymes are usually named according to the reaction they carry out: the suffix &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[-ase]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is combined with the name of the [[substrate (biochemistry)|substrate]] (e.g., [[lactase]] is the enzyme that cleaves [[lactose]]) or to the type of reaction (e.g., [[DNA polymerase]] forms DNA polymers).&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
