同社は、National Medical Enterprises, Inc(現在の[[Tenet Healthcare]])の小会社Medical Ambulatory Care として1979年に設立された。

1994年8月、[[Wikipedia:DLJ Merchant Banking Partners|DLJ Merchant Banking Partners]]による7550万ドルの[[:en:leveraged buyout|レバレッジド・バイアウト]]により、同社の70％が買収された。その後、同社はTotal Renal Care Holdings, Inc.に社名を変更。
